The following are the
plans for Summer Camp 2024 at Camp
Constantin.
-This is the list of who is going to Summer
Camp with their Patrols and positions.
- Functional
patrols after pulling out the Canoe Trekkers and
not wanting to leave Zaccary D as the Lone Red
Bull. Nic M will be acting Quartermaster.
DRIVING
PLAN
- The driving plan is
for Sean P to pull the trailer both ways, but
Nicky M and Sean P will not be staying the
week. Michael S, Casey J, and Justin B will
also be driving, and staying the week. We
have 18 scouts to transport (17 Troop 363 Scouts
and Lyla B who is going as a Maverick) and we can
weather the storm of any one car failing.
Please bring $40 cash for gas money.
- On Sunday, 23 June
I'm asking for the Drivers, Acting SPL, and PLs to
arrive at 0740 for a quick meeting. This
will give us time to meet and the trailer to be
hooked up before everyone else starts to arrive at
0800. PLs will collect gas money and
permission slips while directing their
Patrol. I want to be 'on
the road' by 0845 with a stop in Cisco
for lunch, fuel, and rest rooms. If
anyone is late they can try and catch up to our
caravan in Cisco or you will have to drive your
Scout the entire way to Camp Constantin. Our
check-in time is 1330 at Camp Constantin so we
should have 45 minutes to an hour in Cisco.
- On Saturday, 29
June we will be returning. I've asked Sean P
to return at 0800 to load the trailer and Nicky M
to return at 0900 to drive scouts back to
Southland Baptist. Plan is again a 45 minute
to an hour stop in Cisco so scouts need to reserve
some of their spending money. We should
arrive back at Southland Baptist around 1415 to
unload the trailer. We will have scouts
update their parents/guardians on our ETA when we
hit Miles.
JUSTIN'S SUMMER CAMP
ADVICE:
1) Do not keep
Food/Drink mixes in your tent, the ants will find
it and ruin an evening trying to clean them
up. I've also seen racoons get into
toothpaste.
2) Get the Plano
Sportsman's Trunk at Academy to store your gear,
they are $25-$30 depending on discounts and can be
locked. Label it. Keep racoons out of your
toothpaste.
3) Plan on doing all
the offered activities, no one goes to summer camp
to brag on all the sleep they received, on Tuesday
or Thursday we will be going on a canoe journey
before breakfast to devil's gate to watch the
sunrise and no one gets left behind in camp.
There is also a hike that has a phenomenal view of
the entire camp to devil's gate. That hike will
take place one evening, and it will be a hot hike.
No one listed any Mobility
Issues in their registration form so no one gets
left behind.
4)
Hydrate or having a miserable experience is a
definite thing. It is much easier to stay hydrated
than it is to catchup.
5)
Make sure you have your totem chit on you at all
times, and especially if you want to purchase a
knife. If you don't have it, they have been known
to make scouts join the Brazos Buccaneers (Trail
to First Class) course to earn one.
6)
Most phone services do not work or have limited
working areas. If you need to get a hold of me
send me a Facebook message so I get it when I
connect to Wi-Fi.
7)
Act in accordance with the Scout Oath and Law.
Casey, Michael, and I will be playing zone defense
with 17 scouts and cannot babysit individual
scouts. Scouts that cannot act in
accordance with the Scout Oath and Law will be
sent home. 2-deep leadership is a requirement, so
in the event a scout must leave, their
parents/guardians will have to do the entire round
trip in order to take their scout home.
8)
Brode D is planning T-Shirt days, I have not heard
anything more on this so standby for further
details from him. Participation isn't mandatory,
but it really helps with troop cohesion.
9)
It's gonna be HOT and the sun is gonna be
shining, so long sleeves, sun screen, and hats are
a must. We will be doing water checks before
leaving breakfast. Make sure your scout has a
large reusable Nalgene (or the like) that they are
able to carry themselves.
10)
The only scout I am tracking leaving early is Max
H. Barring behavioral issues, Scouts need to plan
on being there the entire week.
TENTATIVE
BUNKMATES
- I did the ages from
oldest to youngest and figured out these
bunkmates. We do not have a guaranteed
campsite yet, but could spread out more depending
on the number of canvas tents available.
Personal tents and hammocks are authorized as
well.
MEDICATIONS
Michael S has
volunteered to bring a way to securely store
medications. Last year one scout brought more
medications than the entire lockbox could hold so
be judicious in sending medications. For example,
send enough for 8 days, not a Sam's club bottle of
Tylenol.
That being said, this
is not the week to take your kids off their
meds. Dessie is collecting medical forms and
building the binder for camp. If medical
forms are not in order and cannot be corrected
before the trip the scout cannot attend summer
camp. I'm out of town next week so hopefully
this helps, any unanswered questions please reply
to
justin@PROTECTED or ask
them at the committee meeting tomorrow.
