Scouts & Parents – I would like for every family to attend the movie below.  I will for sure be going.  It is two nights, a Thursday and Friday.
I’ve been disheartened with how little history our scouts have learned in school.  I don’t blame them, I blame the system.  They can always work harder.  We need parents to inspire the need to know history, government, what makes our nation great.  I think this movie will be a good opportunity.  I hope you can get it on your calendars. If you want your scouts to go, and you can’t get them there, call me.

Subject: A Chance For Scouts to Celebrate Their Local Heroes on the 80th Anniversary of D-Day

Dear Scout Leaders,

My name is David Paterson. Many older scouts are familiar with my Disney Movie, BRIDGE TO TERABITHIA, but I am reaching out to you regarding a documentary I have produced in honor of Veterans. We  have found teens to enjoy this film as much as adults.

Next month, theater chains throughout the country are marking the 80th Anniversary of D-Day by screening my award-winning documentary, THE GIRL WHO WORE FREEDOM in over 100 cities and 31 states.  One location in your area is the Icon Cinema in San Angelo, TX June 6th and 7th.

As a former scout myself, I fully recognize the importance of honoring our past and respecting those who protected and ensured our freedom. This is a great opportunity for the area's Scouts to be a part of this once in a lifetime opportunity, to learn about an event that changed the world, and celebrate the 80th anniversary with those few remaining heroes that brought us that peace. Sadly, most or all of these heroes could be gone by the 85th anniversary.  San Angelo has 60+ WW2 Veterans, some who may have actually partook in D-Day operations.

We are hoping by providing the cities the film will be playing in, this information can be passed on to the local troops where the theaters are located. For Scouts to attend screenings with attending veterans or visit with those unable to attend, it will leave an indelible mark in their lives and further their Scout oaths of duty to God and Country, duty to other people, and duty to self. We must all remember that many Veterans were once Scouts, and many Scouts will become Veterans.

It should be noted a portion of sales from all screenings will go to local Veteran charities and organizations. Scout participation will elevate local awareness, positive press and interest in these screenings, as well as educate Scouts on a life changing event that made them who they are today.

Please let me know how we can make this information available to all of the councils and troops in the screening area. Attached below is a link to the film's trailer.

We would be very appreciative to partner with you on spreading the word and involving the Scouts.

Respectfully yours,

David Paterson
