Happy Friday, Troop!

Here's some information you'll want to know for summer camp.

A note on the attachments:
2023 TRJ Class Catalog — Please use this to check the prerequisites for your badges and see what you can/should knock out ahead of time.
Camper Equipment Checklist — It's the equipment you'll want as a camper. Can't say they didn't warn you.
Class Schedule — This has the classes each scout has signed up for. Each scout is on a separate page so you can just print or screenshot what you need.
Schedule - Daily & Weekly — An overview of the week's activities.
Shooting Release — Okay, so I'm not exactly sure what this one is for, but if you have a scout who is 14 years old (or 13 and done with 8th grade) or older and they'd be disappointed if they don't get to do some "Cowboy Action Shooting," I'd fill it out.

Sunday, June 11
We are expected for check-in at 2:45 p.m. I'm showing it to be just over 5 hours of driving. Let's all be at the church no later than 8:30 that morning and try to hit the road by 8:45. Pack a lunch.

Saturday, June 17
The camp staff's goal is to have everybody out by 10 a.m. following campsite inspections and checkout procedures. The camp will have a grab-and-go breakfast. We'll stop and buy lunch somewhere on the way home.

Campsite
They will assign our campsite when final registration closes a week before the start of our camp. I'll let you know when I know. The camp will provide a tent on a wooden platform for every two people. Scouts are used to doubling up, but we CAN bring extra tents if we wish (I imagine I'm mostly talking to Mr. Bancroft and Mr. Jacobson here).

Stuff you'll need
Read the whole checklist, please, but definitely bring:
  • Class A (required for travel, evening flags, and dinner)
  • A cot! You don't want to sleep on a wooden pallet for a week. Talk to Mr. Helton if you do not own a cot. 
  • A day pack
  • Paper and pen
  • Bug spray
  • Sunscreen
  • Water bottle
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Socks. The checklist from camp says 3–5 pairs. They're wrong. Bring more than that.
Stuff you'll probably want
  • A battery-powered fan and extra batteries
  • Cash for the camp store - they request small bills (1s, 5s, 10s)
  • A good, roomy footlocker to keep all your stuff in. It's a long camp, don't try to pack in your usual weekend camping bag.
  • A camp chair.
  • If you plan on doing any horseback riding, long jeans are required.
Other notes
  • OA members - bring your sash.
  • The camp recommends writing scout name and troop number on all items to facilitate with easily returning lost things.
  • We can bring table decorations for our dining table if the scouts want to talk about that.
  • We'll need either 2 or 4 table waiters (it's 2 per 10 scouts, and we have 16) plus a supervising adult to set the table before and clean up after each meal. I'd recommend the scouts get a roster together to share the workload. Just a heads up for now: be ready for this responsibility.
  • Prescriptions: if they're properly labeled, we can keep them locked on site with an activity log; if they're not properly labeled or require refrigeration, we'll have to keep them at the medical lodge.
  • Do you need a 5-mile hike for advancement? There's one scheduled for Friday morning.
