This is for the Enchanted Rock campers . . .
Attached is the permission slip. You can bring it this Tuesday, or
the Friday when we leave.
You will need to bring $10 for gas. You are buying your own
food.
Meals:
(2) breakfasts – I suggest flavored oatmeal (hot meal). Breakfast
bars are good. . . no pop tarts, not good for a strong body!!
(1) lunch – any packaged meat. I like tuna and salmon with
crackers. Granola bar, beef jerky, Summer sausage, anything works.
(1) dinner – I suggest a dehydrated meal from Happy Trails, Academy,
Walmart; lots to chose from.
Snacks – whatever you want. Apples and fruit cups work really
good.
Expect no water available at our camp. There is a creek bed near by,
usually some springs running. We will see.
Will fill up Nalgene bottle at the trail head. If you have a bladder
with a water system, fill that there also.
Weather could be cool, possibly cold. We will see when we get closer
to the time.
For the new scouts, you will want a pretty good sleeping bag here, and to
use the rest of your scouting career. When it is time for you to purchase
one, talk to Margaret or myself first.
We will be walking in to the camp site in the dark. You must have a
head lamp or flashlight.
Everyone is responsible for packing out their trash. Bring a gallon
baggie for your trash.
Necessaries:
Sleeping bag, ground pad, head lamp, spoon/fork, backpack, compass (if you
have one).
You don’t ever take a coat; layers are the key to warmth. A warm
jacket or hoodie is the heaviest clothing item you ever take back packing.
Will talk about this on Tuesday.
Sun screen, hat, bandana, leather or light weight gloves (if you have
them). First aid kit if you have a small one. Other clothes
and toiletries. I like bringing Crocks for camp shoes, flip flops do not
work; must have a closed toe.
Get your backpack packed the night before. Make sure everything is
firmly secure on or in your pack. J Helton
