Good Afternoon Troop.

Please know we are gearing up for our recharter in 2023 and will be collecting fees/dues for the 2023 year very soon. More information to come.  As always, please contact me if you have any questions or need additional information.

In order to BE PREPARED for our upcoming Recharter, please see the following information received from our local District Associate, Stacy McGuire:

Announcement:  BSA Fee Increase & Council Program Fee Changes & Incentives**

The following BSA membership fee structure will take effect August 1, 2022.

  • $75 for Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouts participants
  • $25 one-time joining fee for new program participants in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouts (Not pro-rated)
  • $45 for all adult volunteers (includes cost of background check)
  • $100 for a unit charter/affiliation fee
  • $15 for Scout Life magazine; this is the first price increase since 2005
  • $75 Program Fee (increased $9, see detail below)

The BSA membership fee helps cover the cost of essential services, including program resources, liability insurance for those participating in approved Scouting activities, criminal background checks, youth protection, and the development of intellectual property for national, council, and unit programs.

The Texas Southwest Council fee (for Youth participants in Cubs, Scouts BSA, Venturing, & Sea Scouts) is currently $66 and will be increased to $75.

This will bring a brand-new Scouts total registration fee (with new member fee) for the year to $175.00 (This is pro-rated by month) and recharter fees for the 2023 year to $150.

The council membership fee helps to:

·         pay for Liability Insurance and Health Insurance for all registered youth and adults

·         pay for program components including resources for Scouts, families, and leaders such as office & administrative, Trading Post, program preview materials, online training and resources, etc.

·         keep the unit rental of a Council Camp for a Texas Southwest Council unit FREE including program resources such as kayaks, canoes, and mountain bikes.

·         keep the cost of winter camp & Spring and Fall Family cub camps low.

·         cover expenses with Online Programming

·         Keep Membership recruitment resources FREE

·         Make 50% commission possible on all popcorn sales

**To help with overcoming this barrier to retention & joining, the following measures are effective August 1, 2022:

·         A new Sol Mayer Scholarship Fund will be developed and accept donations to help support these Scholarships.

·         The New Member Fee of $25 per new Scout will be eliminated with a $25 scholarship from the Sol Mayer Scholarship Fund.

·         For families currently in the program, a retention incentive, a scholarship from the Sol Mayer Scholarship Fund of $42 will decrease the cost of the program fee (if the Unit recharters online & on-time) for youth registrations to $33 – bringing the total cost for youth to register to $108 ($9.00 a month). If not rechartered on-time and online, then the program fee remains at $75.

·         New Scout Registrations after December 31 will receive a $42 a scholarship from the Sol Mayer Scholarship Fund along with the $25 scholarship for the New Member Fee.

In Summary - Effective August 1, 2022: $75 Youth Registration Fee, $33 Program Fee, $15 Scout Life Fee, $0 New Member Fee, $45 Adult Registration Fee, and $100 for a unit charter/affiliation fee.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
