Hello Troop!
I will be teaching the Music Merit Badge starting in two weeks. The plan is to meet at 6 p.m on Tuesdays before the Troop meeting and finish up the Merit Badge by the end of May.
I can accept any number of scouts that want to earn the merit badge (a large group is not a problem), but you should be able to sing or play an instrument, and ideally you should be able to read music.
If you aren't good at reading music, that's okay...that's part of what we will cover during the merit badge classes, but one of the requirements is that you "sing or play a simple song or hymn chosen by your counselor, using good technique, phrasing, tone, rhythm, and dynamics."
So be aware you're going to have to perform a song, either by yourself or with someone else from the merit badge class.
During the merit badge, we will discuss some basic music theory, how sound is made, and how musical instruments work. I also attached the requirements with this email so you can see everything we need to do.
This is a fairly fun merit badge, particularly if you already are in a music group at school, like band, orchestra, or choir.
Let me know on Tuesday who wants to join the class, and we will start the week after that.
Music is life!
